Victory of Eagles out in paperback, and about book 6!
*waves*

I am freshly back (and mostly recovered) from an amazing research trip to upside-down land for book 6, which I am tentatively calling Tongues of Serpents, and happy to announce that Victory of Eagles is freshly out in paperback!

I have not blogged about the trip as I have been hurriedly polishing off the last few short stories I had due before clearing my slate for book 6 (and, um, powervoting for Adam Lambert), but my editor Betsy has written up a little sneak preview of the start of book 6 with some photos from the trip -- I'll be putting some more up on the website as soon as I get my act together to update it, cough.

In other news, I am doing a reading tonight at Ellen Datlow & Matthew Kressel's KGB reading series, for any folks in NYC! It officially starts at 7pm, although it's generally a good idea to get there at least 10-15 minutes beforehand. KGB Bar, 85 East 4th Street (just off 2nd Ave, upstairs.)

I am really upset I can't make the KGB reading. I had it on my calendar but my parents are visiting. Blast.

Thanks for saying "10 to 15 minutes" so us regulars who get there at 6 might have a chance to get seats before your fans mob the place.

I saw it in the bookstore this morning. Hallelujah! Now do I send it out to my son in New Brunswick who's on the last two months of his Katimavik rotation, or wait 'til he gets home? Decisions, decisions. (I couldn't wait for the paperback and got it from the library.)

Yays! Thank You! Like a lot of others, I waited for the paperback because that's the format that I have the first ones in. I listened to it as an Audiobook while I waited, though. I have the whole series to date in that format as well, courtesy of my emusic.com audiobook subscription.

:D

We, your fans in the land down under, hope you had a fun and productive time. We're looking forward to the book. A lot of us are thrilled that Temeraire and Laurence are heading our way. Do you have any plans to send them to India?

Ah, I had been counting down to the 19th ever since I started reading the series (so the beginning of this year). I can't wait to get my hands on it; alas, there is no bookstore nearby, and I have to wait 'til I go into town next. Sigh... In the meantime, I'm dying. XD I hope you're happy!

I read Victory of Eagles about a month ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think you do a wonderful job of getting the character's speech down. The characters sound so authentic to period.

I look forward to the next installment of the series.

Welcome back, Ms. Novik!

I was at your fabulous reading at Pandemonium Books, Cambridge, MA, on your tour for Victory of Eagles last year. (I still have my copy with Eroica on the title page!) I've been waiting patiently to find out where & when your short story starring Anthony was coming out -- can you enlighten a poor soul starving for draconic talespinning? :)

Hey, cool. I didn't even realize the paperback was new (/I'm/ new to the series, having read the first book on Tuesday) but I just got it in the mail today, in time to come on vacation with me. I do love it when things come together like that.

Excellent! I just finished all five books on my Kindle, and annoyed my wife with a "It can't end like that!" twenty minutes after she'd fallen asleep. Can't wait for book six!

I am planning on making a costume of one of the aviators and would like to know how you, the author, envision these outfits. I am doing this for a school project (the excuse), but would also like to appear at your reading in Seattle in costume. ^^; (For example, are their active duty hats like Charles Lindbergh's aviator cap? And so on...)

I would really appreciate any advice you could give me in this process, since I want to make an accurate and awesome outfit. Thank you for your time. :D

FYI, if Ms. Novik doesn't answer...

At Norwescon, I asked the same question, and Ms. Novik said that she basically envisioned the same costumes as from Master and Commander: the Far Side of the World, but with bars instead of epaulettes. And the coat in bottle green instead of navy blue, of course. Feel free to contact me (I'm also in Seattle) for some of the work I've already started on, if you like.

Sorry I missed seeing you in Oz! The new book looks great - can't wait to read more about Temeraire and Will - I just hope they finally find a bit of peace and happiness together.

I think that there are dragons in Oz. Either feral, or allied with the indigenous people (i.e. the aborigines). In either case, I feel that Temeraire, and Lawrence will develop an amicable relationship with and eventually organize them into the "Royal New South Wales Flying Corp".

Naomi, I am so happy and excited to see news of more adventures from our favorite dragon and captain!

It sounds like you have been having a lot of adventures yourself in preparation! I hope that you have enjoyed them.

Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!

If you don't mind, could you let us know when your short stories come out? I've been longing for a hard copy of the Roman story ever since you read at Borderlands, but asking bookstore owners when an anthology featuring dragons and Naomi Novik is coming out makes their computers go crazy!

And another Huzzah! for the successful work to come on book 6!

I'd rather hoped they'd get nabbed in Gibraltar and dragged into the start of the Peninsular war :P Being a guerilla dragon would suit Temeraire down to the ground I think!

Woot! I have to admit, I was somewhat disappointed with the ending of Victory of Eagles, I am very happy to see there will be a book 6. I did not want to see it end that way.
