showing away from comic-con
Hi all, I am doing a quick live post from Comic-Con just to show off the BEST THING EVER, ie, this:

No, sadly, you cannot has a Temeraire of your very own. This piece was hand-made by Glenn of astrolux design, who made it by repainting a Todd McFarlane dragon in Temeraire's colors and putting together new box art using this gorgeous piece by sandara from the wiki/deviantart. He popped it out and GAVE it to me right in the signing line!

*clutches Temeraire to heart*

You cannot see the detail in my bad cameraphone pictures (my camera battery is running out and I forgot to take along the charger, sigh) but it "includes loch laggan action set" and it is "divine wind" action Temeraire. ♥

In other news, Comic-Con remains overwhelming, and I am coping by spending large quantities of time by the pool or wandering around on the tall ships in the harbor. (I have finally! been on the Surprise!) I worry that someone is going to come and take away my fan credentials. On the other hand, earlier this afternoon I was set loose on the dealers' room for a grand total of half an hour and wound up dragging nearly half of it back to my hotel room with a guilty air, so this is really probably an unconscious defense mechanism.

I am off now for my last signing, and then I am free! free! until I get picked up at 6am on Monday to head off to Seattle and Portland. \o/

So awesome. Broke my heart to hear it wasn't OMGREAL, but I know the movie is nowhere near far enough along to have toys in production. :P

My copy of Victory of Eagles is in the mail. Or it had better be. I can't wait. <3

That is a great toy. So how long before there really are action figures?
I want a Temeraire! And an Isi and most of the "wild bunch".
(PS which Todd McFarlane dragon?)

Have a wonderful time in Portland! I hope the fans treat you well at the Powells you are at....Too bad its not at the main Powells, City of Books. Everytime someone comes in from out of town I take them to the main Powells and its aways a treat.

Sadly, I will have to miss seeing you because I am teaching my last class that night. *Le Sigh*...

Just so you know, my icon is from the ship when she was ROSE, at sea, ten years ago.

And I'm sorry I missed you in SF, too. I didn't realize, but you could have had a personal tour of BOUNTY. We came in on the 21st.

THAT is awesome... I wants one!!

There's never anything that interesting at our conventions! The most we get is a half-hearted attempt to break a guiness world record (only, there wasn't one to break, so we got it anyway!!)

I'd love to go to comin-con and dragon-con one day, but alas, I'm not sure my husband would approve! lol.

What else is there to say, both about the VERY limited edition of Temeraire, and your chance to be aboard HMS Surprise. I would say that that is a very good way to really get a "feel" for life at sea approximately two hundred years ago.

About twenty years ago, while I was in the Navy, we were in port at Portsmouth, England, and I had a chance to tour HMS Victory. More recently, I was fortunate enough to be aboard "Old Ironsides" for a turnaround cruise in Boston Harbor. What was remarkable about that, is that shortly after returning home, I read Patrick O'Brian's FORTUNES OF WAR, in which Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin are taken prisoner aboard USS Constitution. While they are fictional characters, the idea that I had recently walked the same decks as had they, came through in a most compelling way.

I am now well into reading VICTORY OF EAGLES. Based on the first four stories, and this one at the point I've reached, I can only say: Do dragons exist somewhere in this world, or do they exist in a world I may reach someday, and do they exhibit those features and characteristics with which you portray them, then I fervently desire the chance to make the acquaintance of one or more of them. It would be fantastic to converse with creatures so different and yet so like ourselves.

Dave

Naomi, I have to admit that sadly, I have yet to buy or read your novels, but it tickled me quite strongly today, to walk into Chapters (the Canadian version of some American bookstore chain) and see your book all over, your name plastered all over. Congrats times a billion. I'll eventually get to your books, promise. I'm glad to see you're doing so well for yourself!
