wherein I fail at both self promotion and grammar
So hey, I should have mentioned this before -- I'm at New York Comic-Con this weekend! I was on a fun panel today, which was lovely for me although I am afraid it does not help any readers here who might have wanted to come, sorry! and then tomorrow (Saturday, that is) I will be signing from 12-1pm at the Del Rey booth (#1920). I have heard conflicting reports on what I will be signing; there are definitely copies of His Majesty's Dragon to give away, but there may or may not be copies of the Victory of Eagles ARC too. :D

From beta session from the story I'm currently working on, set in ancient Rome, spurred by the mistake "we has received":

Francesca: it was so nuts it might be intentional
Naomi: lolcats rome
Naomi: heeeee
Francesca: but I don't think so!
Francesca: ahahah
Francesca: yes
Francesca: you really ought to!
* Naomi rewrites all my work in lolcats
Francesca: we has received testimony!
Francesca: wow, yes
Naomi: Temeraire: I can has cow?
Francesca: hee
Naomi: Laurence: No you can't has. Not yours.
Naomi: Temeraire: :(
Francesca: Napoleon: DO NOT WANT!

And now back to wrestling with both Mark Antony and Ruby on Rails, and also back to my carrot cake from Dean & Deluca, which surprised me (I have been Disappointed in carrot cakes on many occasions) by being really excellent and not over-full of raisins, with icing that is just a nice thin soft not-too-sweet smear instead of a layer of mortar. (I am not by any means eating this before eating actual dinner. No, no.)

Oh dear heavens... Temeraire would think it a GRAND new language... and his white cousin would be completely mortified by it... :)

Lol, that conversation is made ten times funnier by the fact that my friend and I have had conversations like that in regards to the books. Although it tends to be Volly or baby Izkierka and the 'I has cow! yays!'

hmmm ... ARCs? How does one obtain this elusive gem? I've heard told of them. Bah - I should probably focus on exams instead.

One more thing though: how does Warren get away from the Tswana warriors in "Empire of Ivory"? He vanished before they began their long flight, and then he showed up again at Cape Town. I can haz explain pls?

If you come to Cambridge while I am here I will take you to the Rainbow Cafe, which is vegetarian/vegan and has the best carrot cake I -- and more significantly, Nigel Slater! -- have/has ever eaten. No icing, just sour cream. YUM.

I used to have this sour cream chocolate cake from a place in Kent Ct. With a thick creamy dark chocolate frosting on it as well... to die for!

Aahhh! Please tell me you didn't sign ARCs of Victory of Eagles? I was at the booth for the Peter David signing and asked Betsy (who is lovely, by the way) what you would be signing and she said "His Majesty's Dragon." You already signed a copy of "His Majesty's Dragon" for me (way back when you did that reading with Ellen Kushner at South Street Seaport) so I went to a panel on webcomics instead! Alas!

I was at the panel with a friend and we both enjoyed it. Alas, I missed the book signing so thank you, once again, for signing Throne of Jade for me last Friday.

My friend (whom I dragged to the panel to pimp you and your work) got a free copy of His Majesty's Dragon today. I'm hoping she'll soon get hooked on Temeraire and Laurence.

loldragons...oh, that's too funny. Love it. You totally should write a section, or maybe that in-between-the-first-two-books section on your website, in lolcats. My roommate (who has an unnatural love for lolcats) pointed out to me that they've actually translated most of the Bible into lolcats. (www.lolcatbible.com, conveniently enough)

Hello! Here's something that might amuse you. Last summer I was driving to work when my car spontaneously combusted. Fourteen-foot fireball. It was magnificent.

That's not the amusing part, however. The amusing part is that out of everything in the vehicle, the only thing that survived the conflagration was my much-beloved copy of Temeraire: In the service of the king.

Amazingly enough, the book is still legible, though the corners and covers are all burned off and it's waterlogged from the firemen's hoses. There's also a certain burned metal smell that clings to the book despite all my best efforts to air it out...

Here's a link to the video I took on my phone while I was waiting for the fire department. If you look closely, you can see a late-eighties model BMW under the fireball!
