Book birthday!
I am away from home pounding away at Victory of Eagles, but I poke in briefly to say that Empire of Ivory is out today in the US! I confess I am hideously nervous; this really feels more like a second book than Throne of Jade or Black Powder War did, because they came out so close to the first. Let me know if you see it out there! (And there is also the neat box set of the first three books out now too, but there weren't that many sets made, so I don't know how likely it is to spot that.)

As always I would love to hear what you all think of the book, positive and negative and anything in between, either here in comments or as reviews on Amazon or your own favorite online bookstore. And I am a firm believer in not jumping in to discussions about my own work, so if you are kind enough to link me to comments in your own LJs or blogs, have no fear that I will come barging in when you're having a discussion meant for the reader and not for yours truly, even if I love to eavesdrop. *g*

(And if you do have questions for me, please do keep dropping them here -- I, uh, have been lectured on the need to get my act together and so I will hopefully soon be getting some help in making sure they don't languish on here unanswered forever.)

ETA: NOTE - SPOILERS IN COMMENTS!

Is Empire of Ivory going to be available in an electronic format? If so, do you know from which ebook vendor?

And also, Yay! and Congratulations! Which I've said before, but which bear repeating. *g*

Aha! I saw the first three books (and the nifty box sets) displayed prominently at my local B&N yesterday, so I wondered if a new book was imminent. Obviously I will have to return soonish.

There was a nice big stack of _Empire of Ivory_ on the "new paperbacks" display at my Albany NY Borders at 9:00 this morning. Also a few box sets in the SF&F section.

So here I sit waiting like a nice enough wife. See the husband is to bring home our copies after work. I told everyone in my morning dog agility class that is comes out today as well as emailing all 3 friends whom I had already Amazoned them the previous three.

My Amazon preorder arrived about 20 minutes ago!

Also, I've seen the boxed set -- Borders in Germantown, MD.

And may I say Victory of Eagles is just a spiffy name!

Empire of Ivory hit the shelves in Books & Co. (owned by BooksaMillion) in Dayton, OH a little early. It's been there at least since Sunday. (I guess it isn't arriving in frightening, DO NOT OPEN BEFORE _____ packaging like I understand Harry Potter did.) I picked mine up at B&N last night, where they also had the boxed set.

Congrtz on your new release! I seriously doubt there's a need to be nervous with the reaction the first three received.

I'm not sure if Liz passed on my invite or it went to your editor, but I've been looking for guests for Ubercon at the beginning of November and we'd love to have you. Will you be at World Fantasy this year? Unfortunately we're running opposite to it.

Oh no, sorry I missed this -- alas Victory of Eagles is due November 15, so no WF or any other cons for me until it is done -- I am dug in for the duration. But thank you so much for the invite!

Woohoo! I'm surprised to see that it's been available on Audible.com for almost two weeks! They released Black Powers War the month before that and both of them have unabridged versions available! I'm so happy! I just finished Black Powder War for the second time last week.

I'm going to try and stop by the bookstore tonight to get Empire of Ivory in paperback though since i already used up both my Audible credits for this month =P I'll just have to get the audio version later :)

But Wow...the first two are not available in unabridged, that I can see. And I simply will not buy abridged books. *shudders*

But the final two being available in unabridged has finally given me the impetus to buy from Audible.com. I've been putting it off for years now.

My Amazon pre-order should be here when I get home from work. Unfortunately, I can't sit down and read till at least Sunday -- too @#$!%@#%$!^@# to do for an event I'm helping to run.

I also saw the "SciFi" interview with the announcement of the Jackson option! Wow! I knew he'd been interested and optioned Temeraire, but didn't know he'd gone so far.

THEN, the thought of a game started dancing through my brain . . .

Oh: and congrats on the Campbell Award!

Thanks for writing this world -- it's marvelously imagined, seductively characterized and beautifully written.

Hm. There are a couple of bookshops in Dublin that import US books. But given the amount of time it took them to acquire "Throne of Jade" ("Black Powder War" actually appeared earlier!), I don't think I should start holding my breath. Gah. Expect me to start burbling about "Empire of Ivory" around the time the next one comes out.

Empire of Ivory is out on our side of the pond in hardback in November. No idea when it'll be out in paperback, though.

I collect both the UK and the US editions, so my US pre-order from amazon is on its way over. :)
